Intuit says QuickBooks error 1606 comes with an error message specifying “could not access network location”. The error message only prompts when installing QuickBooks Desktop for Windows. Solution 1: Installation of QuickBooks with Administrator Level Authorizations for User Account

Be sure that the account must be in control of a computer technician or the owner of the company to prevent other authorization issues. Also, check you have installed the QuickBooks Desktop with an admin user account, if not yet, get authorization and start your installation. 

  • Reboot your PC
  • Sign in to your PC as a Windows Administrator
  • Perform an installation of QuickBooks 
  • Run QuickBooks 

Solution 2: When you’re running QuickBooks Desktop in Windows 7 installed in parallels

If you’re running QuickBooks Desktop in Windows 7 installed in parallels. To know how just check the below steps:

  • In case of already signing in, sign out of Parallel and log in again
  • Open the Parallel Desktop, click on Devices >> Shared Folders
  • Click on Disconnect All, now you need to log in back again to Parallel
  • Sign in again and start installing QuickBooks Desktop

Solution 3: Perform a QuickBooks Installation in a Selective Startup Mode

Sequentially following the steps to perform a QuickBooks installation in selective startup mode:

  • At very first, prepare a backup of all your data
  • Start your system in selective startup mode
    • Press Windows + R keys together to open Run Command
    • Enter msconfig then click on the Ok button
    • Open the General Tab, in the same window, click on Selective Startup, and load System services
    • Move to open Services tab, in the same window, click on Hide all Microsoft services
    • choose disable all
    • Now unticked the checkbox stating hide all Microsoft Services
    • Reach out to the services list again and verify that you have chosen Windows Installer. If not previously checked, tick the checkbox
    • Click on the OK button
    • Restart the system by following the System Configuration window
    • After the system restart, uninstall QuickBooks Desktop and then reinstall it 
    • Change your system mode: Selective Startup modeNormal Mode

Solution 4: Installation of QuickBooks as a New Window Administrator 

  • The user needs to create a new Windows user with complete administrator-level permissions
  • Perform an installation of QuickBooks Desktop

For Windows 10 Users

  • Follow the steps to create a new Windows User Account on Windows 10 along with admin rights:
    • At very first, click on Windows Start and then Settings
    • Go and open the Account Section, click on family and other users
    • Open the Other User section, in the same window, tap on Add someone else on this PC
    • Pick the option states I don’t have this person sign-in information 
    • Then, tap on Add a user Without Microsoft Account
    • To open the account, enter the username and password
    • Hit the Finish option and pick the created account
    • Go to the Account Type section, in the same window, click on Administrator
    • Hit the OK button

For Windows 7 and 8 Users

  • Follow the steps to create a new Windows User Account on Windows 7 and 8 along with admin rights:
    • Go to the Windows Start Button and click on it
    • In the Search Field, enter User Accounts
    • From the list of all programs, tap on User Accounts
    • In the User Accounts window, click on create a new account
    • Provide a name to your newly created account
    • Click on Administrator
    • Hit the Details

For Windows Server

  • Follow the steps to create a new Windows User Account on the Windows server:
    • Click on Windows + R keys to open the Run Command
    • Manually enter ServerManager and click on Enter
    • Go to the Tools section, browse and locate the computer management 
    • Click on Local Users and Groups
    • Enter name and password for the account after clicking on the Add option
    • Click on the OK button to keep the changes

Solution 5: Troubleshooting Incorrect/Invalid Registry Subkeys

This solution comes with a warning for general QuickBooks users. Only a system administrator having authorizations to make edits in the registry, which if not attempted correctly may lead to other serious damages to your devices, and sometimes it promotes issues that can’t be fixed.
